Resound goes on mission to Canada
“When he (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
- Matthew 9:35-38
Being sent out into the mission field is what Jesus wants for his followers. In the same way, we are being invited to his high and noble mission to reach the college campuses with the gospel message. This past Labor Day weekend, a group of mentors and students from Resound church drove up from Seattle and crossed the border into Canada to help our Vancouver team with their welcome week at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
The UBC Vancouver campus has over 44,000 undergrads and around 10,000 grads, representing 153 countries among international students. The incoming freshman class alone is about 10,000 students!
We were in awe and, at the same time, overwhelmed by the crowds of students swarming left and right, bringing various languages and cultural backgrounds. It was also challenging and inspiring to see our Vancouver staff team faithfully pouring out their time and energy every day to meet students, in the hopes that some would sign up for their connect groups. Even though many of us were tired and stretched after 2 full days of outreach, it was a joyful and fulfilling experience to host pop-up socials, table, and simply strike up conversations with students at the dining halls.
“I’m thankful that through this trip I got to experience pushing past my comfort zone and trying to love people I had never met without expecting anything in return!” - Ethan, a rising senior at UW Seattle. This was Ethan’s second time going to UBC for outreach, but just as challenging and rewarding.
We experienced God stretching and enlarging our hearts in Canada, and we look forward to being on mission on our own college campuses this month at UW and SU.
